The Shearer’s Wool Shed, Paddock and Gardens have been lovingly converted in 2025 into a unique wedding and celebration venue. Set in the middle of a large paddock with expansive rural views, the shed offers an authentic rustic country atmosphere, you simply don’t get with modern wedding venues.  Located just 20 km from Rotorua, on a working farm surrounded by beautiful countryside. Native bush at the back of the property provides the perfect backdrop for stunning couple and family wedding photos.

This style of wedding invites family and friends to be part of the celebration, helping with decorations and bringing food, which keeps costs down, makes this an affordable wedding package, and creates a relaxed, shared experience.

The Big Country – “I Do’ - Wedding Package

Our DIY Big Wedding is designed as an affordable wedding package for couples who want to keep things meaningful, hands-on, and relaxed — without losing the magic of a beautiful wedding day.

You hire the venue from us, and we provide the Shearer’s Wool Shed, paddock and all the essential infrastructure – you bring your people, your style, and your ideas, food and drinks.

You’re free to create a wedding that feels truly yours, without the pressure or cost of expensive catering packages. There’s no requirement to use formal caterers, and no extra fees for choosing a simple, heartfelt cost-effective approach.

We do not provide food or drinks, giving you complete freedom to:

  • Host a potluck-style wedding
  • Organise a BBQ (BBQ not provided)
  • Hire a food truck or pizza caterer
  • Ask family to cook or prepare favourite dishes

If you’d like a little extra support, we’re happy to help. Decoration assistance is available to help the bride and her team on the day.

This is a wedding made together – relaxed, rustic, and full of heart.

What’s Included:

Bridal Party Accommodation & Wedding Car

Included in your package is our on-site homestay with four bedrooms, reserved for the bride and bridal party for the entire wedding weekend. This gives you the freedom to settle in, get ready at your own pace, and enjoy relaxed time together without the stress of travelling on the day.  The homestay is ideal for hair and makeup, pre-wedding preparations, and a calm place to retreat after the celebrations.

To complete the rustic country experience, we also can offer a 1971 Rambler Rebel blue wedding car for a $100.00 extra. This classic vehicle adds a beautiful vintage touch and makes a stunning backdrop for wedding photos, perfectly suited to the wool shed and rural setting.

Venue Times

  • Friday from 3:00 pm: Bride and bridal party arrive to stay in the homestay and begin their set‑up and decorating for the wedding the next day.
  • Wedding can be held in the morning or afternoon
  • Lights out at 12:00 am (midnight)
  • Sunday: Clean‑up and departure by 11:00 am

Venue Spaces

  • Two ceremony options: Garden area or wool shed
  • Reception held in the wool shed
  • If the weather is bad, the ceremony will be held inside the wool shed
